Rivalries were a common occurrence between houses, and loose cannons were prone to breaking the Bounty Hunters’ Creed for their own benefit. CLAN LORD BOUNTY HUNTER PROFESSIONALAs such, the Guild was more of a coalition of professional bounty hunters rather than a true organization. In Legends, the Bounty Hunters’ Guild was historically composed of smaller guilds that usually operated independently and were known for specialized jobs such as kidnapping retrieval, pursuing murderers, or the use of unorthodox techniques to get the job done. The solution to this problem was deemed to be that the bounty hunters should police themselves, leading to the creation of multiple guilds that ended up conglomerating into the Bounty Hunters’ Guild which regulated the bounty hunter trade across the galaxy. The Jedi Order requested that the Galactic Senate see to the increasingly numerous conflicts between the groups. It will be particularly interesting to see what remains constant between Canon and Legends as The Mandalorian expands on the Guild.Īccording to Legends, the Guild was formed in direct response to increasing conflict between rouge bounty hunters and Jedi Knights. Given this, most of the backstory/history of the Guild below is part of Legends and should be taken with a grain of salt. Therefore, the presence of the Guild in The Mandalorian is somewhat novel. Much of what we know about the Guild is no longer Canon and considered part of Legends. Although officially The Bounty Hunters’ Guild, the organization has also been known as the Bounty Guild, the Bondsman’s Guild, or simply the Guild. The guild has been around for many, many years although it has gone through some changes. But what is the Bounty Hunters’ Guild and why is its presence in The Mandalorian important for Star Wars lore? This isn’t a new organization. It is his membership that is integral to propelling the storyline forward and gifting us with baby Yoda. A Bounty Hunter took on any bounty from any legal authority, to be paid only on completion of their task. Bounties collected from such activities made up a significant share of the Mantis' stores of koku. Bounties īecause of their skills, the Tsuruchi were also well-known for their ability to hunt down fugitive's from the Emperor's Law. ![]() A single unit of Tsuruchi bushi could easily destroy a much larger foe if given the ability to move and harass their target. Tsuruchi Bounty Hunters were trained in the arts of stealth and tracking as well, as they primarily served the clan as both scouts and hunters. Students of Tsuruchi's technique were capable of amazing feats with a bow, the least of which included firing multiple shots at once or even firing several shots in the space of time it would take a lesser archer to ready a single attack. Despite the evolution of the school's philosophy, its deadliness had remained constant. While the school still did not teach anything but combat with a bow and close-quarter defense with a short blade, its students were no longer expressly forbidden from carrying katana or wakizashi. In the years since, the Wasp Clan has been absorbed into the Mantis Clan, and the sensei of the Tsuruchi Bounty Hunter School have lessened in their enforcement of Tsuruchi's philosophy. Bounty Hunters also made cunning escorts, mostly serving as perimeter guards. Kitsuki Magistrates found the Wasps to be useful partners. Wasps had no shame in accepting bounty for the criminals they captured. The Wasp Clan Bounty Hunters became famous for their relentless tenacity and incredible ability to hunt down any fugitive from the Emperor's law, and secondly for the motivation behind this, money. In the beginning of the Clan War there were only 47 bounty hunters allowed to wear the mon of the Wasp Clan. ![]() Tsuruchi snapped his own blade in half with his foot, and his followers were bid to do the same. CLAN LORD BOUNTY HUNTER CODEWhen the school was founded on the techniques of Tsuruchi, the Wasp Clan completely eschewed the blade, saying it was a symbol of an impossibly limiting code of conduct. ![]()
